ObamaCare Bill Unveiled - 1990 Pages of the Same Old Socialized Medicine

The 1990 page combination of three health care reform bills put forth by Speaker Pelosi today is just another pig with lipstick.   The Democrats did not learn anything from the summer tea parties.  The bill still includes a public option, despite most Americans opposing it.  This is truly going to shine the light of the truth on the deception the Democrats have been espousing over this issue all year.  If this bill passes, Congress will suffer the same fate as the Washington State Legislator in 1994.

Nearly every claim the Democrats are making about their takeover of health care are deceptions.   The public option claims that health care providers will be afforded the option to negotiate reimbursement rates.  That would be like negotiating with the IRS.   The Dems claim that there will be no “Death Panels” yet they made the bill.

The biggest deception may be how the Democrats are hiding the divide in their own party.    Senator Reid had to get it out of Senate Finance Committee without revealing the divide in his party as well as give the appearance that the bill is bipartisan.  Senator Reid’s slight of hand.

As the public digests this incredibly complex bill, we are going to see that it is an obvious attempt to eliminate private insurance.  If you thought the August Tea Parties were exciting, wait for the fireworks following this attempt.

Has Washington D.C. Learned Nothing From Washington State’s Failed Healthcare Reform?

In 1993, Washington's decidedly liberal state legislature enacted a bill imposing healthcare reforms closely resembling those being proposed today at a national level.   Putting aside the attack on our foundational federalistic fabric, it is a shining example of how and why any government controlled healthcare plan will fail.
The Washington state plan included many of the ObamaCare key elements, including:

  - It created a powerful new bureaucracy
    (Washington State Health Services Commission)
  - It increased taxes (estimated at $2B over six years)
  - It increased regulation (Guaranteed issue, limitations on pre-
     existing conditions, guaranteed renewal, etc…)
  - Enacted employer and individual mandates
  - Government defined package that everyone was required to buy
  - Mandatory managed care
  - Low income subsidies
  - State controlled data collection system
  - Arbitrary caps on premiums and industry revenues
  - Government controlled healthcare purchasing co-ops

Basically, the state took over the health care industry which resulted in a massive loss of individual control and virtually eliminated individual choice.

This government takeover ended up being a politicians worst nightmare.  The bill resulted in higher costs and fewer choices, in great contrast to what it was set out to do.  The reform was enacted with little knowledge by the general public and as the details became more apparent, a backlash ensued revolting against the changes and resulting in a Republican takeover of the legislator.  Control of the state House switched from 65 Democrats and 33 Republicans to 61 Republicans and 37 Democrats.  The Democrats were also reduced to a one seat margin in the Senate.

Despite Washington's state legislators best intentions,  the managed care system they devised was fraught with problems.  It gave no economic incentive to provide the best care to the sickest patients.  Just the opposite.  They had every incentive to provide the minimum care possible to these patients.  The managed care networks received the same capped, annual premium amount set by state officials no matter what quality of care they provided.   Despite incurring far higher costs when treating the sickest patients with the best care, they were paid as though they had provided minimum care.  You can see where this is going, not only would networks incur huge losses treating these patients, but the better the care they provided, the more they would attract the sickest patients, even further increasing their losses.

Numerous private insurance providers closed up shop in Washington, leaving only 16 insurers offering individual health insurance.  The remaining providers began losing money and had to raise rates on individuals and families to remain viable.  Insurance premiums in some cases soared by 40 percent or more.  Yet, the major insurers still were suffering large unsustainable losses.   The number of uninsured in the state rose by 20 percent  as people dumped their health insurance coverage in the face of these dramatic rate increases.
Requiring insurers to guarantee coverage  resulted in  more people opting out of coverage.   The provision of the plan encouraged low cost, healthy individuals to drop coverage because they are assured they can get coverage when they need it, while the sickest people who require the most costly care join the pool up front.  The resultant higher costs of insurance cause even more healthy subscribers to drop out of the market when they recognize they are not getting their money's worth. Guaranteed issue increases both health insurance costs and the number of uninsured.

Washington State gave state legislators around the country an experimental taste of how an Obama-style health care plan would work—or fail to work.  The result was higher costs, burgeoning bureaucracy, and micromanagement.  Not surprisingly, the citizens of Washington State, through their elected representatives, decided that the state's health care "reform" plan had to be repealed.  Following the 1994 election, almost all of the heath care reforms were repealed.

So…. providers are incentivized to give us the minimum care to keep costs down, providers leave and insurance premiums go up.

To put it all in a nutshell  --  the experience of Washington State shows that the answer to health care policy problems lies not in concentrating power and control in government agencies, but in reforming the health system to open up the insurance market and promote real consumer choice and competition.  Such a policy offers the best hope for improving the health care system because it returns to individuals the power to make important health care decisions for themselves in a free marketplace.  These goal of any reforms should be to provide positive rather than punitive incentives for doctors, hospitals, and other health care institutions once again to be primarily responsible for and accountable to their patients instead of to corporate or government bureaucrats.  Perhaps most important aspect of any reform, they must be compatible with personal freedom, the overriding value at the heart of America's political institutions and as shown in Washington can have horrendous political ramifications.

The Price of Prop 8 – Domestic Terrorism

The Price of Prop 8 - Heritage Foundation

Here is an incredibly scary and well documented report by Thomas Messner of the Heritage Foundation about  how the far left has been  embarking on a domestic terrorist campaign against those who opposed the legalization of gay marriage in California.  No one in the main stream media would ever dare report it as terrorism, but how can it be categorized as anything else (see definitions below).

The state of California requires the name of donors making donations of $100 or more to ballot measures be made public.  The donors full name, occupation and employer are posted on the California State website.  Essentially this list being used as a target list by the radical extremists.

Encarta On-line defines terrorism as:
ter·ror·ism [ térrə rìzzəm ] noun

political violence: violence or the threat of violence, especially bombing, kidnapping, and assassination, carried out for political purposes.

Can you imagine the outrage if this situation was reversed?  There would be no hesitation to call them terrorists.  Another example of the bias and political views held by the so called media.
California should change the law to protect the liberty and the safety of its citizens.

Is the Left Desperate for HealthCare Reform? Congress’ Secret Plan

Unable to sell their healthcare reform bill to the public, the Democrats are taking a new tact.  Ram it through in secret.
Everyone should read the Heritage Foundation blog about how the Dems are going to force healthcare reform despite the public opposition.

Health Care Options – Despite What They Say, Health Care Can be Fixed Without a Government Takeover or Costing $1 Trillion

President Obama and his merry band of MSM puppets would like everyone to believe that if we don’t accept their plan than we must just want to maintain the status-quo. They need you to believe that because the other options, the ones they don’t want you to know about, are being proposed by Republicans.
Everyone agrees that health care needs to be fixed. When the cost of a health service doubles in 10 years you can bet that that there is something besides a free market driving up costs.
For over 20 year it has been recognized that health care was on a collision course. During the 1990s, Republicans tried to change Medicare into a defined-contribution model similar to the the health care program that covers federal employees. The Republican-controlled Congress passed such legislation in 1995, but President Clinton vetoed it.
Recognizing that Medicare costs were soon to become a major impact to the federal budget, President Clinton set up a bipartisan Medicare Commission headed by John Breaux (D-LA). The Breaux Commission came up with a plan very similar to the Republican plan in 1999. Liberal Democrats bitterly resisted these ideas because they wanted Medicare to remain a command-and-control system.
More recently, bills were introduced in the House in July 2007, May 2008 and September 2008. All died a painful death in the Democrat-controlled House. There is one that has yet to be pigeon holed in the Democrat “we know better than you” hole and that is the Health Care Freedom Act (S. 1324) sponsored this June by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC). Highlights of this plan:
  1. Protects the rights of Americans to keep their employer-based plan if they choose to.
  2. Provides Americans without employer-based health insurance with vouchers of $2000 for individuals and $5000 for families to purchase health insurance.
  3. Allows Americans with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) to use their HSA funds to pay for insurance premiums, encouraging employers to contribute to their employees’ HSAs.
  4. Creates a national market for health insurance by allowing individuals to purchase health insurance plans in any state.
  5. Provides block grants to states to develop innovative models that ensure affordable health insurance coverage for Americans with preexisting health conditions.
  6. Reduces predatory and frivolous malpractice lawsuits against physicians and hospitals.
  7. Assures that every health care consumer has access to price information prior to treatment so they can make informed decisions about their care.
  8. Repeals financial bailouts (TARP) to fund health care vouchers.
No government takeover, no new taxes, and best of all – It addresses the real problems with health care costs.
DeMint's bill is estimated to insure an extra 22.4 million people, at no net cost to the government. According to a Pacific Research Institute study, the Tort reform reform portion alone could potentially save $200 billion per year or more. If tort reform were to save only half that much as the study suggests, it could result in savings of $1 trillion over ten years, it would save as much as the ObamaCare plan would cost.
Clearly there are many viable solutions to the problems presented by skyrocketing costs of health care without burdening our already fragile economy with a new entitlement program that, like any government program, will be impossible to get rid of. So… don’t be fooled by the liberal hype. It is all smoke and mirrors.
Health care reform is possible without ObamaCare.

ObamaCare Org Chart- Example of Bureaucracy in Action

Here is the ObamaCare organizational Chart. Can’t image what the process flow chart will look like. I wonder if anyone could even put that one together.
Does anyone think that this astounding array of bureaucracy will make health care better, much less cheaper? Name one government program that has made anything cheaper.

There is no Such Thing as Illegal Immigration - Can You Say, Here Comes Amnesty

DHS is revising their policy that allowed local law enforcement authorities to enforce the federal immigration laws.  This new policy will greatly reduce the ability of the local police address arrest illegal immigrants.
Local law enforcement agents have identified more than 120,000 suspected illegal immigrants over the past two years.
And what is their justification…
Assistant Secretary, John MortonJohn Morton, Assistant Secretary of ICE made this statement, "In a world of limited resources, our view is that we need to focus first and foremost on people committing crimes in our community who should not be here."
Got news for you Mr. Morton, crossing the boarder without going through proper channels IS A CRIME, they are breaking the law just by being in our country illegally.  I just can’t understand why these people can’t seem to understand that.  Basically, what they are saying to these local police agencies is you don’t have to worry about that law… it’s ok if they break that one.
It’s pretty clear that this Obama administration’s first step in the Amnesty plan.  He’s gonna need those votes come 2012.

Will ObamaCare replace Medicare?

What will be the result of adding another 50 million patients to the already overburdened health care system? Doctors and health care providers struggle today at providing proper care to those currently in the system. So it is pretty clear what the result will be (and you can confirm it by looking at the Canadian system), the result is RATIONING. Who will be most affected by when the government starts deciding who gets health care and who doesn’t? You can bet the first major target will be the elderly.
The elderly were screaming at the top of their lungs when Bush tried to change their precious Social Security. These changes will have a dramatic effect on their health and ultimately their lives. The Social Security changes pale in comparison to the changes proposed by the health care legislation and yet the AARP and other elderly activist groups have remained pretty silent. Why is that? Are they hoping to get a piece of the ObamaCare pie?

Misread the Depths of Economic Troubles or Too Arrogant to See?

VP Biden stated this weekend that the Administration "misread" the depth of the economic troubles it inherited…
I find this statement troubling in so many ways. Many experts repeatedly stated the seriousness of the economic problems faced by the new administration and the limited effect the economic stimulus package would have on creating jobs. Yet, the Administration and the democratic congress forced this upon our nation despite the experts saying it wouldn’t do what the Administration was claiming it would. The administration was obviously too focused on their “agenda of change” to listen to these experts and take the correct steps to fix the economy and get people back to work.
The stimulus was supposed to be about jobs, jobs, jobs… And yet…
Biden also said this weekend that the 9.5 percent unemployment rate is "much too high." Nothing like stating the obvious Mr. Vice President, I am sure the millions of Americans without jobs would whole heartedly agree with you. Didn’t the administration pledge to stop unemployment before it reached 8 percent? Another broken promise.
I believe the house minority leader Boehner, R-Ohio, sumed it up pretty well, "The real question is where are the jobs. You can't spend $800 billion of taxpayer money and not create jobs when you say that's what the goal was. We haven't seen the jobs yet."

Change – Living with Broken Promises

Does anyone remember President Obama’s campaign promises? Are we so adorn with the new President that we have forgotten how “Change” was defined during the campaign?
It’s true that many of our politicians have broken campaign promises, but none have done it with such arrogance and impunity like this Administration.
The trail of broken promises began with Obama’s appointment of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. All through the campaign he touted how differently his foreign policy views were from Hillary’s. When asked why he would appoint someone with such differing views, his response to the reporter was essentially that everyone knows that campaign promises mean nothing and you must be “having fun with me”.
A few months later, Obama flipped on Cuba. For years he expounded his support of lifting the embargo, but then once elected, made an about face. With no explanation. His response when questioned about it was that at the time he was "running for Senate" at a time that "seems just eons ago", as if everyone should know that previous campaign promises mean nothing.
President Obama insisted during the election that "I actually would like to see a relatively light touch when it comes to the government." If this is a light touch then I would hate to see his “heavy handed” government.
Candidate Obama promised that for seniors making less than $50,000 a year he would eliminate all income taxation resulting in an average savings of $1400 per year. These cuts were not part of the stimulus. When questioned why this tax cut was not followed through, the White House issued no response.
Does anyone remember the promise of allowing five days for public comment on the White House website before signing bills. Well, apparently the Administration didn’t remember either because the first bill President Obama signed was only two days between passage and signing without posting to the web.
Obama stated during the campaign that "No political appointees in an Obama-Biden administration will be permitted to work on regulations or contracts directly and substantially related to their prior employer for two years. And no political appointee will be able to lobby the executive branch after leaving government service during the remainder of the administration." This statement was the cornerstone of Obama’s theme of limiting the influence of special interest groups. Obama signed an executive order in an attempt to keep his promise, but as any good lawyer would do, they created a loop hole. All you have to do is get a waiver and then your in. Let’s just say the Administration has used this loop hole liberally.
Obama promised to help the small businesses out by giving them a $3000 tax credit for every new full-time employee they hired. Like the senior tax exemption this tax credit was also not in the stimulus bill.
The Change.gov website stated that "Obama and Biden are calling for legislation that would allow withdrawals of 15% up to $10,000 from retirement accounts without penalty (although subject to the normal taxes). This would apply to withdrawals in 2008 (including retroactively) and 2009." These penalty free withdrawals were not in the stimulus package, nor has any legislation been proposed in attempt to make good on this promise. Tax day has come an gone.
Other promises like closing the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, enact windfall profits tax on oil companies, repealing the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy and many others are either stalled and on the verge of collapse or long forgotten as just “campaign rhetoric”.
Our country once respected and revered democracy by at least expecting an explanation, even if weak, for promises left unfulfilled. Have we become so numb from “Reality TV”, scorched-earth campaigns and flip-flop politicians that we no longer feel the need to hold our elected officials to the highest standards that made this country great?
It is a sad state of our society when we cannot count on our public officials to follow through and accomplish the actions they set forth in the agenda they espoused in their run for public office. Historically, Americans have held campaign promises in very high regard, even sacred. When did we loose the “your word is your bond” expectation and begin letting our elected representatives say whatever they want to get elected? Why do we not hold them accountable?
In a republican democracy we use these pledges of future actions as a metric to determine who is best suited to represent us and carry out the policies that we hold dear. If we live with the idea that politicians all talk out both sides of their mouths and will say anything to get elected, then we are party to the destruction of democracy as we know it. Destruction of the great experiment as our fore fathers dreamed it.

Cap and Trade will Cost Millions of Jobs!

A study performed by The Charles River Associates, a Harvard based economic consulting firm, claims the Cap and Trade Bill will cost Americans 2.5 million jobs per year. The report, Impact on the Economy of the American Clean Energy and Security Act, states that wages and return on investments will fall resulting in lower productivity and employment opportunities. The Administration calls it a Jobs Bill. What a farce. Apparently the Administration only plans to tell you about the jobs it will create and not the millions that will be lost. They also are not telling us what the effect will be on the economy.
The rational used to bring this bill to fruition was that it would reduce dangerous green house gases. Even the most radical environmental analysts claim the restrictions put in place by this bill will only reduce the global temperature 0.09 degrees by 2050. This is rediculous.
This bill comes at a high cost with almost no benefit, as stated in a previous post (Senators Unite), the free market needs to dictate the move to clean energy, otherwise the effect on the economy will be horrendous.

Huh, Canada is moving away from socialized medicine. Curious…

Could the New Health Care Bill Overturn Roe v. Wade?

The 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade could fall into a legal battle if the the Democrats proposed Health Care Bill is enacted. Specific wording in the decision could open the flood gates.
Specifically Roe v. Wade states:
“The right of privacy, whether it be founded in the Fourteenth Amendment's concept of personal liberty and restrictions upon state action, as we feel it is, or, as the District Court determined, in the Ninth Amendment's reservation of rights to the people, is broad enough to encompass a woman's decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.”
The Obama health care plan intends to insert a 3rd party (i.e. Big Brother) between you and your doctor. How does this relate to the Roe decision, well, Roe v. Wade specifically forbids 3rd parties from interfering in patient-doctor relationships on the grounds of privacy and individual liberty.
You may say that this only applies to pregnant women, but I would argue that the word in Roe apply to all. Unless you believe that every living breathing human is not “viable”, then the rights afforded us by the 9th and 14th Amendments to or constitution as stated, in the Roe decision, apply to us all.
I guess every cloud has a silver lining. It's either Roe v. Wade or Socialized Medicine.

EPA Suppresses Report on Global Warming

Senate leadership is calling for a inquiry to investigate why the EPA ignored reports questioning the claims made by Al Gore and the rest of the “sky is falling” global warming crowd. Apparently an EPA analysis, Alan Carlin, co-authored a report that pointed out that the data the EPA is using to make decisions regarding global warming is out of date. It also pointed out that global temperatures have been falling for the past 11 years. The EPA downplayed the report and bashed Carlin.
His boss told him that his report would not be included in the EPA findings. Why not? Well I will tell you. Any report that could derail the Administration's agenda will be squelched.
Can’t wait to see where this one goes.

Senators Unite Against the Global Warming Bill

Don’t succumb to President Obama’s pressure. This bill will result in the largest tax increase in American history under charade of protecting the environment. Obama states that this is an investment in clean energy and create millions of jobs, this just is not true. The burden on business will be passed on the the consumer who in-turn will spend less which will result in lower profits and thus, NO NEW JOBS!
It’s simple economics. Until the market drives the movement to clean energy, government mandates will do nothing but further delay an economic recovery. Is this what Obama wants? Is he forcing his agenda “no matter the cost”? Destroy the economy to fully implement his vision of a socialist society?
It’s time to standup. Write your Senators in opposition of this bill and request that they stop the taxing & spending. Restore the free market and let the market dictate the schedule for transitioning to cleaner and safer energy sources.

Economic Recovery Delayed Due to Global Warming

Does anyone remember how President Clinton turned the economy around back in the early 90’s. Well I will give you a hint, HE CUT TAXES! He cut taxes, in particular capital gains taxes, and revenues soared. Businesses were infused with money, new businesses created and more investing happened. Clinton understood economics. Obama is doing the exact opposite of cutting taxes, does anyone think revenues are going to soar? The Obama Administration’s goal of instituting every leftwing agenda item his first year of office is eventually going to force congress to raise taxes. He has already said he would “Entertain” tax increases to pay for the Global Warming bill they are proposing. We better hope that the Obama administration just does not understand economics, because the alternative is reaalllly scary.

Iran to Obama: I Thought You Were Different?

President Ahmadinejad’s response to President Obama’s pathetic attempt at condemning his crackdown on dissidents had some interesting tones to it and is very telling about how the rest of the world views the US. Basically, he said, “I thought you different from Bush, you’re not supposed to talk to me that way. I would expect that from President Bush, but not you. You have caved into pressure from the evil Republicans. If you are going to treat me that way then I am going to take my ball and go home”.
It’s obvious that Ahmadinejad thinks the US, under Obama, is not carrying a big stick anymore. Threats from the US carry no weight because he believes that any threat made by the Obama Administration is an idle threat at best. Comparing Obama response to President Reagan’s responses to Brezhnev’s actions against the Poles in the 1980’s. Reagan used terms like “Evil Empire” and strongly condemned the Russian actions against the Poles. Reagan looked as demonstrations similar to the ones that are occurring in Iran and said that the sight was “thrilling”. There was no standing on the sidelines and letting democracy be squashed by a communist regime.
In contrast, while people were dying in the streets in the streets of Iran for democracy, Obama’s initial response was, "It is up to Iranians to make decisions about who Iran's leaders will be. We respect Iranian sovereignty and want to avoid the United States being the issue inside of Iran." Obama was definitely standing on the sidelines
It took pressure from the Republican leadership and resolutions from Congress for Obama to finally issue a stronger response. Though this response was firmer in support of democracy he still softened the blow with phrases like "I'm very concerned based on some of the tenor and tone of the statements that have been made that the government of Iran recognizes that the world is watching," he said. "How they approach and deal with people who are, through peaceful means, trying to be heard will, I think, send a pretty clear signal to the international community about what Iran is and is not."
America needs to be the the beacon of democracy. We need to be a beacon of hope. President Reagan said it best in his speech The Shining City Upon a Hill: We cannot escape our destiny, nor should we try to do so. The leadership of the free world was thrust upon us two centuries ago in that little hall of Philadelphia. In the days following World War II, when the economic strength and power of America was all that stood between the world and the return to the dark ages, Pope Pius XII said, “The American people have a great genius for splendid and unselfish actions. Into the hands of America God has placed the destinies of an afflicted mankind.”
We are indeed, and we are today, the last best hope of man on earth.

ABC Refuses Opposing Advertising During Obama Health Care Infomercial

ABC claims that they have a long standing policy of not airing commercials that are considered advocacy ads and thus is refusing allow any opposing views from being aired during their broadcast of “Questions for the President: Prescription for America”.   Does anyone think this is good for America?  One thing that has kept our country great is ideal that all voices should be heard. The way this happens is open debate, not a bully pulpit inside the White House.  Opposing sides need to be given a voice to ensure that the merits of each can be evaluated and an informed decision be made by us, the recipients of this plan.  I would expect this in countries like Iran and Cuba, but NOT America.

$1.5+ Trillion Health Care

Early estimates from the House and Senate plans are already a staggering $1 to 1.5 Trillion. We all know how good they are at estimating actual costs so the real numbers will be scary.
What is this going to do to our debt when the retired baby-boomer numbers continue to grow with fewer and fewer workers contributing to the coffers? CBO say Medicare and Medicaid will rise from 4.4%% of the GDP to 10.2% in 2040.
Let’s see, they’ve already told us that Social Security will be broke, Medicare and Medicaid will be unfunded and now we will have a third entitlement we won’t be able to pay for.
What are we doing to our children?
