Is Civility on the Left Dead?

Hypocrisy aside-- the liberal left has accepted a cultural of obnoxiously disingenuous, out-for-yourself deception in the name of furthering the liberal cause.
They call people names when they disagree with their vision for the “ideal society”.  They will say anything, even lie, to further their agenda even if the truth is evident.  They refuse to listen to reason and combat any reasoning with emotionally charged attacks on character.  With the ultra-liberal left totally in control, this behavior has become the modus operandi.
Just look at how the left attacked anyone who disagreed with the proposed changes to health care this summer.  Nancy Pelosi characterized the grassroots movement as an astroturf campaign.  Implying that the movement was somehow a staged and a deliberate attempt to undermine the Obama agenda.  She actually called the protesters Nazis.  Anyone with any common sense knows that she couldn’t be further from the truth, and the irony is that the protesters were comparing the government takeover of healthcare to nationalized socialism, of which Nazism is derived.
Pelosi was not alone in the nasty name calling and to be sure the left has reset the bar to a new low by calling the townhallers racists.  My personal favorite though came from Janeane Garofalo’s when she said that the protesters were not only racist but teabagging rednecks.   I could list many more examples of this childish name calling, but you get the point.
One may say that name calling has always been in the left’s tool bag, and that is true.  But, in the not so distant past, it was a tool of last resort.  The one they pulled out when nothing else worked because the damage from that tool could be unrecoverable (back when the media actually held public officials accountable).  Ever since the left has been in control of Congress and the White House this is the first tool that comes out and with no regard for the damage it may impart.  They truly believe that they have impunity to say whatever they want with no repercussions.  With that attitude flourishing -- I would have to say that civility in disagreement just may be dead.
Where does this leave us as a country?  The reactions, and more disturbingly the accusations, levied on citizens with legitimate concerns regarding the Administration’s policies deflects attention from the real issue (obviously their intent) and stifles legitimate opposition.  Many Americans oppose Obama's policies because they believe in individual liberty, self-reliance, community, and a small limited federal government according to the Constitution. They believe that free-market capitalism does work and is the answer to our problems, not government.
With no open and honest debate of substantial issues, we move further from the founding ideals that makes America great.  Suppression of openness and suppression of opposition to the government agenda is the definition of fascism.
I believe that most Americans believe deeply in the ideals that our country is founded upon and will not let this suppression persist for long.  We have only seen the beginning of uprising.  I believe that many Americans feel betrayed because this is not change they can “Believe In”.   This movement toward socialism is being driven by the elitist left and will eventually be exposed for what it is, an attack on America.
How do we combat this attack on America??  I believe we will see a counter attack next November…
