As we begin 2010, America is sitting at an ideological crossroads. The question lingering at the forefront of my mind as we begin this new decade is: Will she continue to lead the cause of freedom with principal and vigor, or will she bow down and let others take the lead by way of diplomacy and foreign aid?
During his years as president, Ronald Reagan represented a new beginning for the avocation of individual freedom and limited government. Despite those who cherish and worship paternalistic government portraying him as an ignorant and dangerous buffoon, President Regan was able to rally the nation, renew a love of America and defeat the evils of communism. Today however, those lovers of big government are running our country . As such, America is drifting further away from the basic principals of freedom envisioned by President Reagan and those who shared his belief that the American people can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
Reagan had unwavering confidence in the power of ideas furthering the cause of freedom. He believed that government was the problem, not the solution. He spoke with great persuasiveness that the creative energy of free men in free markets was the road to American greatness. He also argued that government taxing and spending sapped the strength of the American people and hampered their ability to find private-sector solutions to the supposed array of “social problems.”
The policies and legislation of the current administration and Congressional leadership make it abundantly clear that they do not share Presidents Reagan’s belief that the ingenuity of the American people in a free market can resolve almost any issue. Under the guise of intellectual enlightenment, our leaders believe that they can better solve our problems through increasingly intrusive government control, even to the point of enacting laws a majority of the people are adamantly opposed.
So how have we gotten to this point? In less than a generation, the ideals that brought about a patriotic renewal, a huge economic boom and a belief that America can accomplish anything are being tossed aside for a nanny state where everyone is “entitled” to the benefits that freedom provides without having to pay the price for that freedom.
Those of us that love liberty know that she must be protected, and when threatened, liberty must be defended. I still believe that America’s best days are ahead. I may be a bit of a dreamer, but to think otherwise would be giving up so what would be the point. I believe that America is liberties best hope of survival in a world where freedom takes a back seat to political correctness and without our shining city on a hill leading the way, she may be lost forever.
So as we begin this new decade, I have found my focus… restoring America’s belief that we can accomplish anything when liberty and freedom are loved, cherished and protected. I owe it to those that came before me who defended it with their lives and to my children who come after me and deserve that same American dream that I have enjoyed.

The entitlement crowd will do us in if we let them. It's too easy for those that work to be required and expected to spread the wealth to those who refuse to work. This will end our freedom as we know it. Democrats never bring anything to the table but entitlements.
Nice to meet you Paul. Found you on BlogCatalog. Have a terrific day. :)
Freedom has nothing to do with corporate controlled war mongering. Most people want nothing to do with "entitlements", me included.
Please answer this question, How do you fight wars by cutting taxes? We are bankrupt or on the verge of it. Yes we should lead but we have to figure how to do it on the cheap. The corporate welfare has to end.
Americas best days may be ahead but realize they are a long, long way off. Corporate control of the government is the problem!
KAK,
Appreciate your comments.
I don't understand how protecting you from America-hating terrorists could be war mongering, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Freedom has everything to do with our citizens not having to worry about some lunatic strapping a bomb to his family jewels and blowing up a plane.
If "most" people, as you say, want nothing to do with entitlements then why does 42% of regular federal spending go to pay for these programs that no one wants? Fix Entitlements
As far as paying for the war, you answered your own question... fix entitlements and cut government wasteful spending on useless programs and we will have more than enough money to fund the our military and intelligence. Taxing us more will do nothing but extend the recession. We need to restore our federal government back to what it was designed for, to protect America. Give the power back to the States where it belongs.
Spending our way out of this recession will not work. History has shown this time and time again and yet, they keep doing it. I believe that is the definition of insanity. America is a free-market economy, get the government out and let the system work.
I agree with you that lobbies have way to much influence in Washington. We need to hold our elected officials accountable and vote them out if they play those games. Unfortunately, most citizens are too apathetic to care. They have accepted that "that is just the way it is".
Paul, admitted military spending is the largest part of the federal budget, add in the black military budget, add in the cost of our two wars which Bush did not include in his military budget. The military produces nothing valueable to our economy. Americas young men do not die for liberty, they die for corporate oil profits. .......How do you pay for war with no taxes?
It is our interference in other countries business that creates terrorists, someday the public will get it, after how many are dead?
As it should be. The federal government was established with the charter of providing for the common defense, not to take our money and run our lives.
Funding the war with supplementals was necessary at the time. I don't have time to explain, but it was.
Unless you are a fanatical Muslim extremist, you are an infidel just like me and they want you dead. Regardless of whether you are nice to them or not. When will the liberal left understand that????
